Alstare team manager Francis Batta has confirmed he is considering entering the World Supersport Championship with MV Agusta machinery next season following its decision to drop out of the World Superbike Championship.
The Belgian-based team, which finished runner-up in the WSBK championship as recently as 2010 with Suzuki support, will not continue in the premier Superbike series next season after failing to secure necessary backing from the manufacturer.
As such, though Batta emphasised his loyalty to Suzuki by refusing to work with another Japanese brand, he has stated his interest in pairing with a European manufacturer, most notably MV Agusta.
Rumours of Alstare teaming up with MV Agusta surfaced towards the end of the 2011 season, though Batta himself recently claimed in an interview that he had had little contact with the Italian marque.
However, developments since then have led Batta to declare that the project is still alive and he is considering taking the new F3 machine to the World Supersport grid. Speaking to GPOne.com, though Batta says any potential debut would not occur until midway through the 2012 season, he admits it's a tempting option.
"I'm working to do some races in Supersport in 2012 with the new F3 but we need to know how competitive the bike will be. We have not signed anything, so we won't be ready come February, but we could make our first appearance during the season.”
Earlier this week, Luca Scassa, who was an MV Agusta factory rider when it competed in the AMA Superbike series, denied his involvement in the burgeoning project.
